Admissions Process

  1. What are the characteristics of a competitive applicant?
    • UConn Admissions counselors perform a holistic review of every student's application, incorporating standardized test scores, rigor of academic curricula, classroom performance, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Competitive applicants to the Waterbury campus generally have a B- to B cumulative grade point average (2.7-3.0 on a 4.0 scale), are ranked in the top 50% of their high school class, and have performed favorably on standardized tests. Admissions requirements are detailed on the Application Information section of our web site.
  2. Do you interview applicants for admission?
    • Interviews are not required, and do not affect a student's admission decision.
  3. Can I complete my bachelor's degree in Waterbury?
    • Yes you can! Students enrolled at that Waterbury campus can complete their 4-year degree in American Studies, Business & Technology, Human Development & Family Studies, Psychology, and Urban & Community Studies. You can accommodate your busy schedule by combining coursework at UConn's campuses in Torrington, Greater Hartford, and Waterbury.
  4. Do you have an Admissions Office in Waterbury?
    • The Undergraduate Admissions Office is located in the Student Services Suite of the Waterbury campus.
  5. Do you have tours of the Waterbury campus?
    • Tours of the Waterbury campus are by appointment. Please call (203) 236-9803 to schedule a campus tour.
  6. Where do I send my high school transcript and other application materials?
    • All supporting documentation (transcripts, standardized test scores, recommendations) should be sent to the main admissions office in Storrs: University of Connecticut, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 2131 Hillside Rd Unit 3088, Storrs, CT 06269-3088.
  7. How will AP/IB scores be applied to my student record?
    • Based upon the scores you receive, AP/IB credits will be applied to your student record after you are offered admission to the University. Please see the AP guidelines and IB guidelines websites for more information.
  8. I am applying to UConn as a transfer student. Can someone in Admissions tell me which courses are transferable to UConn?
    • An official "Transcript Evaluation" is sent to all admitted transfer students who have submitted the required $150 acceptance fee. Students transferring from a Connecticut college or university can visit http://www.transfer.uconn.edu/transfercredits.html to learn more about course transferability.
  9. I have been admitted to the Storrs campus, but want to enroll at the Waterbury campus, what do I need to do?
    • Students who have been admitted to Storrs and wish to “campus change” to Waterbury should first contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office in Waterbury (203-236-9803 or beahuskywaterbury@uconn.edu) to verify that their major is offered at the Waterbury campus.  If the major is offered, students must then send a formal request in writing so that the “campus change” can be processed.  Students enrolled at the Waterbury campus can complete their entire University of Connecticut degree in select programs or complete the first 54 credits of most majors before transitioning to the Storrs campus.
  10. I am on the waitlist for Storrs.  Can I attend the Waterbury campus if I do not get taken off the Storrs waitlist?
    • Students on the Storrs waitlist, who wish to remain on the waitlist, must first notify the Undergraduate Admissions office of their intent to remain on the Storrs waitlist.  Each waitlist student will be offered admission to a regional campus if he/she is not admitted to Storrs.  Waitlist decisions will not be made until late May.
  11. I submitted my $150 acceptance fee deposit, when can I register?
    • Deposited students will be contacted via US Mail when registration dates become available.  Registration for the fall semester does not begin until mid-May.
  12. How do I obtain a printed copy of the UConn Undergraduate catalog?
    • All deposited students are mailed a copy of the Undergraduate catalog prior to course registration. The catalog is also available online at http://www.catalog.uconn.edu.

  14. Is parking available on campus?
    • A UConn student parking decal is valid in the parking garage attached to our campus or the Scovill street garage. Students pay $40 a year for a parking decal.
  15. Do you have residence halls at the Waterbury campus?
    • UConn Waterbury is a commuter campus of the University of Connecticut, we do not provide on campus housing.
  16. I plan to start my UConn degree in Waterbury and then campus change to Storrs. Will I receive on-campus housing in Storrs?
    • Students who begin their UConn career at a regional campus are guaranteed housing in Storrs for two semesters.
  17. Does UConn require that I purchase a laptop computer?
    • Incoming students are not required to purchase a laptop computer.  Students enrolled in the School of Business and who plan to “campus change” to Storrs for their junior and senior years are required to participate in the SOBs mobile computer program (click here for more information http://www.business.uconn.edu/cms/p152).   There are two computer labs on the Waterbury campus that provide access to internet, email, and desktop applications.   The campus is also equipped with convenient wireless connections.  Students wishing to purchase a laptop can find useful information here (http://waterbury.uconn.edu/IT_MS/buying.html)

  19. When does the FAFSA need to be completed?
    • Students should file a FAFSA online at the FAFSA website after January 1st, but before March 1st to meet UConn's "on-time" deadline. Questions should be directed to the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-433-3243. UConn's FAFSA school code is 001417.
