Dennis McGavran earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, in 1974. He teaches mathematics and (occasionly) statistics courses at the Waterbury Campus of UConn.
Dr. McGavran's specializes in algebraic topology and has published several research papers in transformation groups and fixed point theory. He currently serves on the University Senate and is active in the AAUP PAC.
Professor McGavran has been involved in many community activities and served on the Waterbury Board of Education from 1988 to 1992.
